Postal Link Implementation

Client Guidelines for Setup

1.       Procure an IMID from the post office.

IMID stands for Intelligent Mailer Identification.  Client will obtain the IMID from the post office.  The following link provides information on the Intelligent Mail Mailer ID Application: https://ribbs.usps.gov/index.cfm?page=intellmailmailidapp

To request an IMID go to http://www.usps.com/ and select the Business Customer Gateway located at the bottom of the web page in the footer area.  Log in as an existing user, or sign-up as a new user for a business account to gain access to the Business Customer Gateway. Once you have access, request the "Mailer ID" tool and proceed with the "Request a MID" button to obtain a MID.

ACTION REQUIRED:

Follow all directions on the USPS website. If you need assistance, contact your local post office or:

Intelligent Mail

Phone: 800-522-9085

Email: [email protected]

2.       Decide which Move Update method will be used.

To qualify for commercial postage rates, mailers must demonstrate that they have confirmed or updated the addresses used on mailpieces within 95 days prior to the mailing date. This is referred to as the Move Update Standard. For detailed information please refer to the Guide to Move Update at this link: https://ribbs.usps.gov/move_update/documents/tech_guides/GuidetoMoveUpdate.pdf.

The Ancillary Service Endorsement “Return Service Requested” is Accela’s best practice recommendation. It is accepted by the USPS as a stand-alone method to meet the Move Update Standard, and statements that are Undeliverable as Addressed are returned to you at no additional charge with the new address or reason for nondelivery attached.

ACTION REQUIRED:

Choose a method that meets the Move Update Standard and your own business needs.

If you choose “Return Service Requested,” have the endorsement printed on the envelopes you use to mail statements (or on your postcard stock).

3.       Obtain the information required by the Postal Link system.

The requirements described in the following table are used to calculate postage and produce the Postage Statement, CASS reports, and tray tags for each mailing.

  • weight is less than 3.5 ounces
  • thickness is between .009" and .25"
  • width is between 5" and 11.5"
  • height is between 3.5" and 6.125"
  • aspect ratio (width/height) is between 1.3 and 2.5.

ACTION REQUIRED:

Have the information indicated in the table above ready for your setup & training session.
