BP Inspection Type Maintenance

Updated on

Summary

The Inspection Type Maintenance window allows you to create and maintain inspection types. Inspection types can be attached to permits and permit types in order to assign inspection tasks, track inspection progress, apply fees to the permit, and automatically update the permit status accordingly.

Step by Step

1     Open the Inspection Type window (BP> Maintenance> Inspection Type).

  • All of the inspections types that have been created in the Building Permits module will display in the window, including types that are not attached to inspectors.
  • Enter information in the Search Criteria section and click the Refresh icon to filter the inspection types that display in the window.
  • Highlight an inspection type and click the Delete icon or press DELETE to delete the selected inspection type.
    • You cannot delete an inspection type that is attached to a permit or permit type.
  • Highlight an inspection type and click the Modify icon or press ENTER to open the selected inspection type.
  • Click the Create icon or press INSERT to create a new inspection type. This will open the Inspection Type Maintenance window.

2     Create a new inspection type.

  • The only field required to create an inspection type is the Inspection Type field. All other fields are optional.
  • Enter a unique Inspection Type.
    • The Inspection Type field can be up to eight alphanumeric characters long and is used to identify a unique inspection type.
    • If you are using inspector email notification, the Inspection Type field will display on the notification email.
  • Enter a unique inspection code in the Code field.
    • The Code field can be up to four digits.
  • Enter a Description for the inspection type.
    • The inspection description can be up to 40 alphanumeric characters long.
  • The Length (Hours) field is used to enter the length of time the inspection generally takes to complete.
    • When the inspection type is added to a permit the Scheduled Duration field will populate with the value entered in this field.
  • The Reinspection Type is used to specify another inspection type that will be added to the permit if the current inspection type status is updated to Reinspect.
    • If you would like to charge the permit holder a reinspection fee, add the fee to the Add Fee on Pending field of the inspection type you selected for the Reinspection Type field. When that reinspection inspection type is triggered, the type status will default to Pending and the fee will be automatically triggered.
  • Enter a Default Queue or click the field label to select one from a list. You cannot specify both a default inspector and a default queue.
    • Queues are created and maintained on the Queue Maintenance window (BP> Maintenance> Queue).
  • Enter a Default Inspector or click the field label to select one from a list.
    • When an inspection type is added to a permit, the default inspector will populate the permit Inspector field.
    • Inspectors are Springbrook users that are set up with availability schedules on the User Schedule Setup window (SS> Maintenance> User Schedule).
  • The Permit Status fields will determine what status the permit will change to when the inspection type status changes from the default Pending status to Approved, Failed, or Reinspect status.
    • Click a Permit Status field label to select a permit status from a list. Permit statuses are created and maintained on the Permit Status Maintenance window (BP> Maintenance> Permit Status).
  • The Add Fee fields will automatically apply a fee to the inspection type when the inspection type status changes from Pending to Approved or Failed.
    • Click an Add Fee field label to select a fee from a list. Fees are created and maintained on the Fee Maintenance window (BP> Maintenance> Fee).
    • Because Pending is the default step status, any fee specified in the Add Fee on Pending field will be immediately applied to the permit when the inspection type is added to the permit.
  • The Completed By Applicant and Internal Step toggles are used for information purposes only and do not affect how the type is processed.
  • Click the Save icon when the new inspection type is complete.
